Three Bisons Named to Football All-Region Team

SEARCY – Three Harding football players recently earned mention on the 2010 Don Hansen All-Super Region Two Team. Junior running back Kale Gelles was 1st Team, senior defensive end Marcus Jones was 2nd Team, and senior center Chris Ross was 3rd Team.

Gelles, a fullback in Harding's triple-option offense, was the leading rusher in the Gulf South Conference. He carried 190 times for 1,099 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Colleyville, Texas native earned 1st Team All-GSC honors and was the first Harding running back with over 1,000 yards in a season since Chris Pierson in 1997.

Jones, a native of Houston, was third on the team with 44 tackles. He had 11 tackles for losses and 6.5 sacks. Jones earned 1st Team All-GSC honors as a defensive end and was key to Harding setting a school record with 43 sacks, the most by any team in Division II in 2010.

Ross, a native of Lancaster, Calif., started all 10 games for the Bisons at center. A transfer from Antelope Valley College, he was instrumental in Harding leading the GSC and ranking fifth in Division II with 272.2 rushing yards per game. The GSC's coaches voted Ross 1st Team All-GSC.

Because of Gelles' 1st-Team status, his name will advance to the All-America ballot.
