MEMPHIS, TENN. – Christian Brothers’ Mariano Ilari scored two goals and added an assist on a third to lead the Bucs to a 3-1 win over Harding, Sunday in Gulf South Conference soccer action.
Christian Brothers (7-8-1, 4-3-0) kept its slim hopes for the final GSC Tournament position alive with the victory. Harding (3-11-1, 1-5-1) remained winless in its last six outings.
Junior midfielder Brad Whitsitt scored his first goal of the year in the 25th minute to give the Bucs a 1-0 lead. Ilari and Matt Werakso received the assists on the goal.
Ilari made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute, scoring on a give-and-go from Rasaq Kuteyi.
Harding cut the lead to one in the 77th minute. Freshman Kevin Nix scored his first collegiate goal unassisted.
Eight minutes later, referee John Snyder whistled Nix for a foul in the penalty box and issued a yellow card. Nix argued and was sent off after receiving a second yellow. Ilari converted the penalty kick for the game’s final goal.
Christian Brothers shot 26 times in the game, but only eight were on goal. Harding keeper Ryan Hamilton recorded four saves.
Harding shot a season-low five times, four on goal. CBU goalkeeper Chad Rounder had three saves.
The Bisons conclude their 2005 season, Friday, Oct. 28 against ninth-ranked Central Arkansas in Conway.
