HU Volleyball Falls 3-1 to #8 Washburn at NCAA Tournament

FLORENCE, ALA. – Eighth-ranked Washburn defeated Harding 3-1 in the first round of the NCAA II Volleyball Tournament, Thursday at the University of North Alabama. Game scores were 30-19, 28-30, 30-23, 32-30.
 
Harding completed its season with a 33-5 record. The Lady Bisons’ 33 wins was the most since Harding joined the NCAA in 1997. Its .868 winning percentage is the second best in program history. It was the fourth straight season Harding fell in the first round of the tournament.
 
Harding’s lone senior, Synda Veitenheimer, led the Lady Bison attack with 20 kills, her fifth match of the season with 20 or more kills. With her 20 kills, Veitenheimer broke her own single-season kills record with 538.
 
Harding had 61 kills in the match but could not overcome Washburn’s 18 total blocks. The Lady Bisons hit only .165 to the Lady Blues’ .254.
 
Washburn improved to 35-2 overall and will meet the winner of the Truman State/Alabama-Huntsville match tomorrow at 5 p.m.
