SEARCY – Harding used an 8-0 run in the game’s final two minutes to defeat Arkansas Baptist 94-83, Monday in non-conference men’s basketball action at the Rhodes Field House. The win was the Bisons’ fifth straight overall and 13th consecutive over the Buffaloes.
Harding improved to 6-1 overall and 5-0 at the Rhodes Field House. Arkansas Baptist fell to 3-11. The Bisons play the final game of a five-game homestand Thursday night against Central Baptist.
A three-point field goal, Arkansas Baptist’s 12th of the game, cut the Harding lead to 86-83 with two minutes left. Neither team made another basket, but the Bisons hit 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch to pull away.
Senior Lonnie Smith hit 8-of-8 from the free throw line and led Harding with 25 points. He has made his last 16 free throws over three games. Patrick Andrepont added a season-high 21 points, and Brandon Sims notched his second double-double in the last three games with 20 points and a season-high 13 rebounds. Cole Kee was also in double figures with 10 points.
Four different players scored 17 points for Arkansas Baptist (3-11). The Buffaloes were only the second opponent to outshoot Harding from three-point range this season. ABC hit 12-of-31 (39%) from long range, while the Bisons connected on 11-of-31 (36%).
Harding won the game at the foul line, hitting 23-of-29 (79%). Arkansas Baptist made only 3-of-7 (43%) at the stripe.
