Christian Brothers Downs Lady Bisons 66-63 with Late Rally

MEMPHIS, TENN. – Christian Brothers sophomore guard Kristen Kirland made five consecutive free throws in the final minute to lead the Lady Bucs to a 66-63 win over Harding, Thursday in Gulf South Conference play at Canale Arena.
 
Harding (8-8, 0-5) looked like it would pick up its first win in conference play when junior Jasmine McClindon converted a three-play to give the Lady Bisons a 63-62 lead with 45 seconds remaining.
 
Kirkland was then fouled on a drive with 26 ticks left and hit both free throws. Ponecia Anderson came up with a blocked shot on Harding’s next possession and the Lady Bisons were forced to foul Kirkland when she came up with the loose ball. The Collierville, Tenn., native again made both foul shots and Harding was unable to get off a three-point attempt to tie the game on its last possession.
 
The win for Christian Brothers (9-6, 2-3) was its sixth straight over Harding dating back to 2003.
 
McClindon led the Lady Bisons in scoring with 19 points. Kinsey Tucker added 16 points and four assists and freshman Catherine McMenamy 15 points and six assists. Junior -Chelsea Simpson notched her second double-double of the season with 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.
 
Crystal Shelton led Christian Brothers, which shot 49% from the field, with 16 points.
 
Harding shot 40% from the field, and the Lady Bison bench was outscored 31-2 by the Lady Bucs.
 
Harding will continue its search for its first conference win Monday against Ouachita Baptist at the Rhodes Field House.
