Bisons Can’t Overcome Cold First Half; Fall to HSU, 68-55

SEARCY – Henderson State forward Kelvin Brown scored a game-high 18 points and added nine rebounds to lead the Reddies to a 68-55 win over Harding Saturday night before a packed house of 3,100 at Rhodes Field House.
 
Harding (11-7, 3-5 Gulf South Conference) shot only 19% from the field in the first half and had its three-game winning streak over Henderson State snapped.
 
Henderson State (9-7, 5-3) entered the game ranked seventh in NCAA II in scoring defense and limited Harding to only 16 points on 5-of-26 shooting in the first half, the fewest points the Bisons have scored in any half this season. The Reddies led 24-16 at the break.
 
Both teams shot better in the second half, but Harding never got closer than four points at the 16:35 mark.
 
The teams combined to shoot 2-of-23 from three-point range, with the Bisons making 2-of-13 and the Reddies missing all 10 attempts.
 
Lonnie Smith led the Bisons in scoring for the 13th time in the last 14 games. The senior from Hughes, Ark., had 15 points. Alassane Savadogo was the only other Harding player in double figures with 10 points.
 
Donald Austin added 14 points and Ryan Johnson had 10 for the Reddies. Henderson State outrebounded Harding 48-32 and had 20 offensive boards.
 
The Bisons begin the second half of the GSC season Thursday night, taking on 11th-ranked Delta State in Cleveland, Miss.
