HU Volleyball Clinches Fifth Straight West Title

SEARCY – Harding had five players with 10 or more kills, led by senior Katie Westmoreland’s 19 and the Lady Bisons clinched their fifth straight Gulf South Conference West Division championship Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over Henderson State. Game scores were 30-23, 26-30, 30-20, 30-20.
 
Harding (20-8, 10-0) improved to 59-3 in GSC action over the last five seasons. Henderson State (17-12, 5-4) lost for the fourth time in its last five conference matches and dropped its 10th straight to the Lady Bisons.
 
Westmoreland had a .545 (19-1-33) hitting percentage, her sixth match of the season with a .500 percentage or better. Katelin Parks had 17 kills, while Tiffany Morrison and Manuela Nesheva each had 11, and Shellie Rummer had a career-high 10 kills.
 
Harding had 70 kills to Henderson State’s 49. Rachel Norton led the Lady Reddies with 15.
 
Defensively, the Lady Bisons had six players with 10 or more digs for the first time this season. Junior Meredith Rosenbaum led the team with 18. Morrison (15 digs), Parks (12), and Nesheva (12) each collected double-doubles.
 
Nesheva added two service aces to become Harding’s single-season aces leader. She has 53 aces in 90 games, surpassing the old record of Laura Lejarzar set in 1998 in 137 games.
 
Harding continues GSC play next Tuesday, hosting Arkansas Tech on Senior Night.
