Lady Bisons Win Season Opener

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Lady Bisons opened the 2006-07 season with an overtime win against North Alabama at the Ouachita Baptist Tournament with a score of 106-98. Harding’s win was its third straight season opening victory. Harding stayed with its exhibition trend as freshman Kelsea Lyda led the team in scoring with 19 points.
 
The Lady Bisons led the game by six points at the half (48-42) but rallied back and forth with the Lions through the second half. With 8:46 left in the second half, Harding took the lead only to allow the Lions to catch up and tie the game at 95 off of a three-pointer with four seconds left on the clock. The Lady Bisons took a seven point jump and dominated the overtime period with eight free throws divided by Chelsea McCarty and Kaitlin May and a three by Lyda.
 
North Alabama had two star players on offense with Chelsea Maloney leading the game with 23 points and Tandra Inmon right behind her with 22. Harding had six players with double-digit scoring including Jasmine McClindon with 18 points and McCarty with 17 and 10 rebounds. Stacey Owens joined McCarty in the double-double club with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Lady Bisons had efficient shooting from the field (54.1%) but fell short of the Lions hitting only 37.5 percent from behind the arc and 17 of 24 (70.8%) from the free throw line.
 
Harding will continue at the Ouachita Baptist Tournament tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 18 against West Alabama at 3:00 p.m.
