AUSTIN, TEXAS - Incarnate Word shot 52 percent from the field in the second half, and Jason Grant scored 20 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to lead the Crusaders to a 79-70 upset of 21st-ranked Harding on Saturday at the St. Edward's Shootout.
Harding (1-1) had trouble connecting from outside, shooting only 8-of-27 (29.6 percent) from three-point range. Incarnate Word (1-1) also controlled the paint, outscoring Harding 38-20 inside.
The Bisons led 36-29 at halftime as senior Cole Kee made a layup at the buzzer. Harding extended its lead to nine early in the second half, but an 11-2 Incarnate Word run tied the game at 44 with 13:58 left. The game was tied six times after that, the last time at 67 with 4:13 left.
Harding made only one field goal with rest of the way, a three-pointer by Matt Hall. The Crusaders outscored the Bisons 12-3 in the game's final four minutes.
Hall led all scorers with 23 points, one night after scoring 35 in Harding's overtime win against St. Edward's. Senior Patrick Andrepont was the only other Bison in double figures with 17.
The Bisons had 21 turnovers in the game that led to 28 Crusader points. Harding scored only 11 points off Incarnate Word's 17 turnovers.
Harding will be back in action Nov. 27 against Alabama-Huntsville in the Bisons' home opener. Tip-off at the Rhodes Field House is at 7:30 p.m.
