Box Score SEARCY – The Harding Lady Bisons extended their winning streak to six games Saturday with a 61-46 victory over Montevallo in non-conference play at the Rhodes Field House. Harding and Montevallo were meeting for the second straight game. The Lady Bisons also defeated the Lady Falcons 66-64 in Montevallo, Ala., on Dec. 8.
Harding (7-1) last won six consecutive games in the 1996-97 season when it had a streak of 12 straight victories. Montevallo (6-4) fell for the third straight game.
The Lady Bisons shot 41 percent from the field in the first half and limited the Lady Falcons to only 28 percent. Harding led 32-22 at the break.
Harding’s defense continued to stifle Montevallo in the second half. The Lady Falcons shot only 25 percent in the second half and finished at 26.3 percent for the game. Montevallo is the first HU opponent to shoot below 30 percent this season.
Harding used a 14-4 run over a nine-minute stretch of the second half to extend its lead to 19 points at 47-28 with eight minutes left.
Freshman forward Stacey Owens and sophomore guard Catherine McMenamy each scored 12 points to pace the Lady Bisons. Freshman Kaitlin May added 10 and a team-high six assists.
Senior guard Melissa Harris led Montevallo with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Harding held a 47-33 advantage on the boards, led by 10 from senior forward Chelsea McCarty.
The Lady Bisons are back in action Tuesday night at the Rhodes Field House against Lincoln University of Jefferson City, Mo. The Blue Tigers are 1-9 on the season.
