Harding Reserves Shine in 97-44 Victory

SEARCY – Harding’s reserves scored 70 points, led by junior guard Kellen Morgan with a career-high 16 as the Bisons closed out a perfect five-game homestand with a 97-44 victory over Champion Baptist, Tuesday at the Rhodes Field House.
 
In the last four games, Harding’s substitutes have outscored opposing reserves 207-28.
 
Harding (6-1) collected its eighth straight home win and his 12th straight non-conference home victory. Champion Baptist (1-11) lost to the Bisons for the second straight season.
 
After Champion’s Xavier Singleton hit a hook shot in the lane to tie the game at 2-2, Harding scored 27 consecutive points over the next six minutes and led by at least 19 points the rest of the way.
 
Morgan’s previous career high was six points, set last season against Champion Baptist. The Amarillo, Texas native hit 4-of-7 from the field and 7-of-8 from the foul line. Junior Rick Hamilton added 15 points, senior Brandon Sims had 14, and redshirt freshman Jordan Wise pumped in a career-high 10 points.
 
Senior Aaron Weido scored 20 points to lead Champion Baptist, which shot only 27 percent from the field.
 
All 14 Harding players played 11 minutes or more.
 
Harding is back in action Thursday night against North Alabama. The Bisons defeated the Lions 103-96 on Dec. 2.
