Lady Bisons Edge Past Montevallo, 66-64

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Chelsea McCarty’s jumper with 19 seconds left on the clock pushed the Lady Bisons ahead of Montevallo by one point and paved the way for a 66-64 win in Montevallo Friday night. Harding extended its winning streak to five games with a 6-1 overall record while the Lady Falcons dropped to 6-2. The victory was Harding’s first ever win over Montevallo.
 
McCarty totaled only six points on the night but four were in the last 1:18 of regulation helping the Lady Bisons reclaim the lead they kept for most of the second half. Jasmine McClindon and Kelsea Lyda led the Lady Bisons with 13 points each in Harding’s lowest scoring game this season. Freshman Kaitlin May was 3-for-3 from behind the arc totaling nine points and six rebounds. Catherine McMenamy led with nine rebounds.
 
Montevallo’s Trellice Moore had a game-high 17 points and added 10 rebounds. The Lady Falcons were only 2-of-11 from three-point range and 8-for-16 from the charity stripe while the Lady Bisons hit 37 percent (10-27) of their three’s and 73.7 percent (14 for 19) from the foul line. Turnovers plagued both teams with Harding totaling a season high 24 turnovers.
 
The Lady Bisons will face Montevallo again next Saturday (Dec. 16) in Searcy at the Rhodes Field House beginning at 2:00 p.m. Beginning with Montevallo, the Lady Bisons have only four games left before starting Gulf South Conference competition on Jan. 6, 2007.
