SEARCY – The Harding men’s basketball team kept its Gulf South Conference Tournament hopes alive with an 85-76 win over Southern Arkansas on Thursday at the Rhodes Field House. The Bisons are 13-9 overall and 4-7 in league play, two games behind Henderson State for the final tournament spot.
Five Bisons scored 11 points or more, led by senior guard Lonnie Smith with 18. Smith hit 3-of-4 three-pointers.
Southern Arkansas (6-17, 3-9) trailed by as many as 31 points in the second half, but went on a 30-9 run in the latter part of the game and cut the Harding advantage to as few as seven.
The Bisons shot 56% from the field, including 64% in the first half. Harding shot 7-of-10 from three-point range, led by junior forward Cole Kee, who made all four of his attempts. Kee finished the game with 16 points off the Harding bench.
Forward Kenny Langhorne finished with 24 points for Southern Arkansas before leaving the game with a back injury, apparently suffered on a reverse dunk midway through the second half.
Harding continues GSC play Monday at Central Arkansas.
