SEARCY – Harding scored three runs in the seventh inning and added the game-winner in the ninth to defeat Lyon 4-3 on Tuesday in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader to earn a split at Jerry Moore Field. The Scots won game one 4-2.

With one out in the eighth, junior rightfielder Devin Watts walked and went to second on a wild pitch. Adam Darby then hit a sharp ground ball to Lyon second baseman Sam Cooke, who bobbled the ball then threw wildly to first, allowed Watts to score all the way from second with the winning run.

Harding (4-2) trailed 3-0 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Bo Whitaker drove in a run with a double and freshman Danny Bryant drove in two more on a single to tie the game and send it into extra innings.

The Bisons used four pitchers, all with limited pitch counts in game two. Junior Justin Phillips was nearly untouchable in relief. He collected his first win as a Bison pitching 2.2 hitless innings, striking out five.

Lyon (6-1) suffered its first loss of the season. Justin McGarity, who got the save in game one, was unable to hold the lead in game two and took the loss in relief. Derek Bond started for the Scots and allowed only four hits and three runs in 6.1 innings.

Scot third baseman Rob Webster drove in three runs and had two hits to pace Lyon in the opener. His two-run single in the first inning off Harding starter Mike Davis (1-1) gave the Scots a lead they would not relinquish.

Harding’s only runs came on a two-run Darby single in the fifth. Jon David Glenn and Bo Whitaker each had two hits for the Bisons.

Hal Skinner allowed only one unearned run in 5.0 innings to collect the win for Lyon in game one.

The Bisons venture on the road for the first time in 2006 this weekend. Harding travels to Austin, Texas to meet St. Edward’s in a three-game series Friday and Saturday.
