Bison Baseball Shutout in Game Three at St. Edward’s

AUSTIN, TEXAS – St. Edward’s limited Harding to only two hits and the Hilltoppers stole seven bases in defeating the Bisons 4-0 on Saturday at Lucien-Hamilton Stadium. The victory gave St. Edward’s a two-games-to-one win in the weekend series.
 
Harding (5-4) managed only three hits and one run in the final two games against St. Edward’s. The Bisons are back home Tuesday to take on Williams Baptist for a single, nine-inning game.
 
Leftfielder Bradley Goldsmith gave the Hilltoppers (2-6) all the offense they would need with a solo home run in the fourth inning off Bison starter Brian McCrackin (0-1). St. Edward’s added an unearned run in the fifth and scored two more in the seventh.
 
McCrackin, a freshman, pitched well over his 6.2 innings of work. He allowed only five hits and struck out three. Another freshman, Cullen DeHart, allowed only one hit in 1.1 innings of relief.
 
Junior righthander Niel Smith (1-1) went 8.0 innings for St. Edward’s to pick up the win. He surrendered only a bunt hit to Blake Robertson in the third and a leadoff single to Ryan Moody in the fifth.
 
Goldsmith had three of St. Edward’s six hits and stole two bases. Brian Thomas had two hits and also had a pair of steals.
