Henderson State Downs Bisons 77-68 in Season Finale

ARKADELPHIA, ARK. - Lonnie Smith scored 25 points in his final Harding game, but it was not enough as Henderson State connected on 26-of-38 free throws to defeat the Bisons 77-68 on Saturday at the Duke Wells Center. The Reddies move on to the Gulf South Conference Tournament next week as the fourth seed from the West Division.

Henderson State (15-11, 10-6) had five players with 10 or more points. Senior Dedric Spooner led the Reddies with 15 points. Kelvin Brown had 12 before being ejected early in the second half.

Harding (16-11, 7-9) completed its sixth straight winning season and its 11th in the last 12. The Bisons shot 37% from the field.

Smith connected on 7-of-19 shots and 9-of-10 free throws. He finished his career with 1,049 points and 158 three-pointers, third most in school history. Ceso Sprewell also played his final game, but saw only seven minutes of action and did not score.

Harding trailed 45-35 at halftime, and cut the lead to as few as two in the second half. Smith's layup with 7:47 left trimmed the deficit to 64-62. Trailing by only three with 2:23 left, the Bisons went the rest of the way without scoring.

Cole Kee had 18 points for the Bisons, tying a career high, and Alassane Savadogo sored 12 and added a team-high eight rebounds.
