Harding Drops Two to Missouri Western in Extra Innings

SEARCY – Harding lost a pair of extra-inning games to Missouri Western on Sunday at Jerry Moore Field in non-conference baseball action. The Bisons fell 7-3 in 10 innings in the opener and 3-1 in nine innings in game two.
 
Harding (5-6) is back in action Tuesday at home against Crichton. The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at noon.
 
Missouri Western (2-0) used three hits and a Bison error to score four runs in the top of the tenth to win game one. The Griffons outhit the Bisons 10-7.
 
Mike McInerney (1-0) collected the win on the mound for Missouri Western. He pitched 5.0 innings of relief, allowing only two hits. Freshman Brian McCrackin (0-2) suffered the loss in relief for Harding. McCrackin allowed four runs (two earned) in two-thirds of an inning.
 
Mike Davis started the opener and gave up three runs on five hits over 5.0 innings. Jeff Davis came on and pitched 4.0 scoreless frames of relief for the Bisons.
 
Zach Fisher and Adam Darby each had two hits for Harding. Willie Forrest had three this for Missouri Western.
 
Pinch hitter Adam Simpson lined a bases-loaded single up the middle in the top of the ninth inning to drive in the winning runs in game two. The hit came off Harding reliever Brandon Brock (1-1). Dustin Beus (1-0) got the win in relief for Missouri Western.
 
Harding had only three hits in the game, one each from Jon David Glenn, Danny Bryant, and Darby. The Bisons struck out a school-record 16 times and left 10 runners on base. Griffon starter Justin Parrish had 10 strikeouts in 5.0 innings.
 
Missouri Western managed only eight hits, struck out 12 times, and stranded 12 runners. Harding starter Justin Phillips allowed only an unearned run over 5.0 innings in his second start of the season.
 
Harding’s run came in the bottom of the seventh when Missouri Western committed three errors, the last of which was a wild pickoff throw to first that allowed Casey Benincosa to score from third and send the game into extra innings.
