Harding Baseball Sweeps Home Doubleheader

SEARCY – Harding used an improved offensive attack to take both games of a doubleheader Tuesday against Crichton College at Jerry Moore Field. The Bisons won the opener 10-2 and rallied to a 7-6 victory in game two, collecting 22 hits in the two games.
 
Harding (7-6) opens Gulf South Conference play with a three-game series at Henderson State this weekend.
 
Jon David Glenn and Adam Darby each drove in three runs for Harding in the opener. Glenn was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a double. Darby was 2-for-2 with a single and a two-run home run that highlighted Harding’s five-run second inning. It was Harding’s first home run of the season.
 
Sophomore lefthander Kenny Barnett (2-1) earned the win on the mound for Harding. Barnett allowed six hits and two earned runs over 5.0 innings of work. Jeff Davis pitched two hitless innings of relief.
 
Crichton starter Billy Davis (0-1) allowed two runs on three hits before being ejected from the game in the bottom of the first inning for arguing balls and strikes.
 
Six different Comets (3-5) had hits in the opener.
 
Devin Watts drove in the tying run and scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth to complete Harding’s come-from-behind victory in the nightcap. Watts was 3-for-4 with a double and scored three of the Bisons’ seven runs.
 
Sophomore Casey Benincosa (1-0) garnered the win in relief. In his pitching debut for the Bisons, Benincosa struck out two in 2.0 scoreless innings. Freshman Cullen DeHart started for Harding, allowing six runs (four earned) in 4.1 innings. The big blow was a D.J. Merriwether grand slam in the second inning that left the Bisons trailing 5-2.
 
Josh Meeker (0-1) suffered the loss for Crichton in game two. He gave up both runs in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Harding had 12 hits in the second game. It marked the second time this season that the Bisons had 10 or more hits in consecutive games.
