Bisons Split at Southern Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The Harding University baseball team was shut out in the first game(10-0) of the conference doubleheader versus Southern Arkansas but came back to claim the win in game two, 7-4. The Bisons improved to 12-15 overall and 2-6 in Gulf South Conference play while the Muleriders moved to 17-12 and 4-6 in conference action.

The Bisons had a tough start from the mound in game one with five hit batters in the first two innings. Mike Davis started the game and pitched 1.1 innings before handing it over to Brian McCrackin. McCrackin pitched the remainder of the game (6.0 innings) striking out three batters and collecting three earned runs. The loss went to Davis and the win went to Southern Arkansas' Cody Jones who pitched the entire eight innings. Jones struck out 11 Bisons and walked only one.

The second game revealed a different team with Harding scoring in four of the seven innings. Justin Phillips went the distance on the mound with eight strikouts. Harding's offense was able to take advantage of the Mulerider pitching staff with 16 hits. Bison first baseman Clay Kiihnl went 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring twice. Blake Robertson also had three hits against Southern Arkansas. Kiihnl and Robertson led the team with 4 hits each on the day.

Drew Webster took the loss in game two for Southern Arkansas. Kolby Tucker led the team with four RBI in the doubleheader.

Harding faces Southern Arkansas Sat., Mar. 26 at 1:00 p.m. for the last game of the three-game series.
