WALNUT RIDGE, ARK. – Harding swept a road doubleheader for the first time in the 2006 season with pair of victories at Williams Baptist on Tuesday. The Bisons produced their best offensive effort of the year in a 17-3 drubbing of the Eagles in game one and came back with solid pitching and defense to win the second game 5-2.
Six different Harding players had two or more hits in the opener as the Bisons scored six runs in the fourth and seven runs in the sixth inning. Sophomore Zach Fisher led the way for Harding (14-16) with two hits, including the Bisons’ first grand slam this season. Fisher finished with a career-high five RBI. Devin Watts and Ben Wimberly each added three hits, and Watts scored a career-best four runs.
Brandon Brock (2-2) picked up the win in relief for Harding, going 4.0 innings and allowing two hits and two runs while striking out three.
Williams Baptist (8-23) had only six hits in game one and five in game two.
Trevor Holbert (1-0) collected his first win as a Bison in the second game. He pitched 5.1 innings and allowed only four hits and two earned runs.
Harding came from a run down to take the lead with a three-run fourth. Clay Kiihnl had the big hit, a two-run double. The Bisons tacked on two more in the fifth, the first coming on Adam Darby’s team-leading third home run.
Casey Benincosa pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn his first collegiate save.
Harding steps up in competition as it returns to Gulf South Conference play on Saturday. The Bisons host 18th-ranked Delta State at Jerry Moore Field.
