Box Score
SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The women’s soccer season opener between Harding University and Drury University was about as even as it could get. Both teams had seven shots in the game and both teams netted one goal Friday in a 1-1 overtime tie at Harrison Field. It was the first tie in a season opener in the nine-year history of the Lady Bison program.

The contest was nearly a carbon copy of last season’s meeting between the two teams, which also had 14 shots in the game. Drury’s Roxanne Rassti and Harding’s Sarah Williamson both scored in the first half in last season’s game and Friday’s game. Harding did not allow the game-winner by Drury on Friday as it did in last season’s 2-1 loss to the Lady Panthers.

Rassti put Drury ahead 1-0 on a goal in the 21st minute. Williamson then answered with a 35-yard blast from the left side for her 10th career goal and the first goal that the senior captain has scored in a road contest.

Neither team managed a shot on goal in either of the two 10-minute overtime periods. Harding’s Chelsea Hornbeck made four saves during regulation.

Harding is 1-5-6 all-time in overtime games.

The Lady Bisons return to action Tuesday in a non-conference road game against Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla.
