MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Lady Bison volleyball team opened its Gulf South Conference season with a win for the sixth straight year Tuesday at Canale Arena. Harding defeated Christian Brothers in a close five game match with game scores of 30-27, 28-30, 30-21, 27-30, and 15-12. The Lady Bisons improved to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in conference action while the Lady Bucs fell to 7-6 and 0-1.
Harding sunk below its season average with a .172 hitting percentage against Christian Brothers’ 22.5 blocks. The Lady Bisons totaled only six blocks but managed a .355 attack percentage in the last game to overcome the Lady Bucs. Harding recorded 70 assists, the most this season.
Once again, freshman Manuela Nesheva stepped up the offense with a career high 23 kills and six service aces. Nesheva also led the team in hitting percentage. Katelin Parks was right behind her with her fourth career 20+ kill match. Senior Tiffany Morrison added 17 kills and sophomore Leah Tepe answered the Lady Bucs with her seventh double-double this season with 61 assists and 10 digs. Meredith Rosenbaum was two under her season high with 27 digs.
Christian Brothers’ Laura Washington led her team with 21 kills and added nine block assists. Jenna Cherry totaled 13 kills and 15 digs for the Lady Bucs.
Harding will look for its next conference victory at home on Thursday, Sept. 14 versus Southern Arkansas at the Rhodes Field House. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Muleriders are 5-6 overall and 0-1 after a loss to Henderson State on Tuesday night.
