Harding Volleyball Downs SAU in Three Games

SEARCY, Ark. – The Lady Bisons made quick work of Southern Arkansas Thursday night at the Rhodes Field House. Harding defeated the Lady Muleriders, 3-0 in its first home Gulf South Conference match of the season. Game scores were 30-12, 30-23, and 30-18 with Harding improving to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the GSC while the Lady Muleriders fell to 5-7 and 0-2 in conference action.
 
The Lady Bisons started off with a great game, hitting .333 and holding SAU to a -.250 hitting percentage. HU topped each game with the next, hitting .361 in game two and then .471 in the last game. Led by senior Katie Westmoreland with 15 kills and only one error, Harding hit .388 for the match with 51 kills and only 11 errors.
 
Southern Arkansas’ offense was lacking with 30 kills and 26 errrors for a .042 hitting percentage. The Lady Muleriders totaled 28 assists and 37 digs while blocking the Lady Bisons eight times.
 
Harding improved its blocking game from its season average with 9.5 total blocks, including seven block assists by Shellie Rummer. HU also notched 46 assists and 35 digs. Leah Tepe had 43 assists and five block assists.
 
The Lady Bisons will continue conference action at home on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Rhodes Field House against Arkansas-Monticello.
