Box Score CLEVELAND, MISS. – In 46 career games, Harding junior Lynsey Clissold scored three goals. Friday in the Lady Bisons’ Gulf South Conference clash with Delta State, Clissold topped that by tying a Harding record with four goals in a 5-1 win over the Lady Statesmen.
The victory moves the Harding to 3-3-3 overall and 2-1-0 in conference. The Lady Bisons have five more conference games, beginning Sunday at Alabama-Huntsville. Harding is seeking to qualify for its third GSC Tournament in the last four years.
Delta State dropped to 4-8-0 overall and 1-2-0 and lost to Harding for the fourth consecutive year.
Harding junior forward Kendyl Washburn scored the Lady Bisons first goal on an assist from Clissold. It was Washburn’s 29th career goal, tying her with Heather Gray for second all-time among Harding players.
Clissold then took over, notching her first career hat-trick before halftime. Delta State scored its first goal just before the break, cutting Harding’s lead to 4-1. For good measure, Clissold added the record-tying goal early in the second half.
Lori Boren is the only other Lady Bison to score four goals in a game, achieving the feat against Lyon in 2003. Boren added three assists in the game and holds the school record with 11 points. Clissold’s nine points Friday is second.
