Former HU Linebacker Tank Daniels Named to Eagles’ Practice Squad

Sept. 4, 2006

Daniels is looking to become the first Harding player to play in an NFL regular season game.
PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Former Harding University linebacker Torrance “Tank” Daniels was named to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad Monday as the team solidified the roster for its opener against the Houston Texans on Sept. 10. The team was required by the National Football League to cut down to 53 players, with eight more on the practice squad.

Daniels was one of 17 players waived (i.e. cut) by the Eagles on Saturday, but he was resigned Monday.

As a member of the practice squad, Daniels will practice each week with the team and receive a weekly stipend set by the NFL. He will also maintain his free agency, which allows any other team in the league to claim him and place him on their active roster. If Daniels is activated to the Eagles’ roster or any other team in the league, he will receive the rookie minimum salary for the season.

The Eagles signed Daniels to a rookie free agent contract on May 1, and he began participating in Philadelphia’s training camp later that month.

Daniels, a native of Clarendon, Ark., recorded 10 tackles, two assisted tackles, and forced one fumble in the Eagles’ five preseason games. His best game came Friday night when he had six tackles and one assist against the New York Jets. Two of those tackles came against his best friend and former high school teammate Cedric Houston.

At Harding, Daniels earned Associated Press Little All-America honors as a senior. He collected 237 career tackles, 34.0 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, and seven interceptions.

If Daniels is activated, he would become the first Harding football ever to play in a regular season NFL game.
