Lady Bisons Drop First GSC Match in Two Years

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Lady Bisons ended a two-year Gulf South Conference win-streak Thursday night as Henderson State defeated Harding in five games. Henderson State improved to 15-3 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference play while the Lady Bisons dropped to 14-7 and 4-1 in the GSC. The loss is Harding's fourth conference loss since 2002.

 

The Lady Bisons came back to win games three and four (30-26 and 30-21) after losing the first two games with close scores of 30-28 and 30-25. The fifth game was won handily by the Lady Reddies, 15-8.

 

Both teams had standout performances on offense and defense. Harding sophomore Manuela Nesheva set a school five-game record with 32 kills while her teammate Leah Tepe had her second 60+ assist match this season with 65. Meredith Rosenbaum was one away from the school record with 43 digs in the match.

 

Henderson State's Edith Musebe totaled 33 kills and Bethany Wright helped out the defense with her second 50+ dig match in two weeks totaling 55 digs.

 

The Lady Bisons hit .220 for the match to HSU's .222. Both teams had 98 digs but the Lady Reddies took advantage of nine service aces to Harding's three.

 

Katelin Parks and Shellie Rummer added a respectable 18 kills each for the Lady Bisons and Emily Tate had double-digit digs for the fifth time this season with 15.

 

Harding returns to the Rhodes Field House this weekend with a match against Alabama-Huntsville on Fri, Oct. 5 at 5 p.m. and a match versus Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras on Sat., Oct. 6 at 3 p.m.
