Harding Bisons defeat Jarvis Christian 96-72

SEARCY - The Harding Bisons committed 27 turnovers against the Jarvis Christian Bulldogs on Friday night but made up for the mistakes with solid shooting. Harding made a season-high 59 percent of its shots from the floor and 42 percent from three-point range in a 96-72 victory over the Bulldogs at Rhodes Field House.

Senior Matt Hall and sophomore Trent Morgan led the Bisons offensively, scoring 17 points each. Hall, who also grabbed seven rebounds, has either tied or led Harding (3-3) in scoring in all six games this season.

Jarvis Christian's David Green scored a layup to give the Bulldogs a 10-8 lead five minutes into the first half, but the Bisons found momentum and cruised on a 34-6 run that lasted most of the half. Harding secured the lead for good at 12-10 when junior Calvin Rayford hit a three-pointer with 12:36 remaining in the first half.

The Bisons led at halftime 44-25.

Harding connected on 19-of-29 shots (65.5 percent) and led by as many as 30 points in the second half.

Twelve players scored for Harding, and four scored more than 10 points. Roderick Braden led Jarvis Christian with a game-high 19 points, and David Green added 17 points.

Harding and Jarvis Christian (5-2) combined for 57 fouls, and three players fouled out including Morgan and freshman Kevin Brown, who scored 12 points and led Harding with a career-high eight rebounds.

The Harding Classic will finish Saturday night as the Bisons will play Alabama-Huntsville at 7:30 p.m. Jarvis Christian will face Ouachita Baptist at 3 p.m.
