SEARCY, Ark. – After falling behind in both games, the Harding baseball team rallied back and defeated the Crichton Comets twice at Jerry Moore Field with scores of 6-5 and 8-5. The Bisons improved to 10-2 overall and the Comets dropped to 5-4.
Harding was down 5-3 in the first game when Wisley Correa came to bat at the bottom of the sixth inning. Correa singled and set in motion the game-winning rally. Bo Whitaker singled through the left side for the fourth hit of the game and moved around on a wild pitch. The Crichton shortstop committed the team's third error to score Correa, then Whitaker scored on a wild pitch. Devin Watts walked with the bases loaded to score Ryan Moody for the game-winning run.
Harding's Brodie Brumley (1-1) pitched the sixth inning to claim the win for the Bisons. Justin Phillips came in for his first save of the season. Crichton's Paul Gipson (0-2) took the loss.
The second game played out much like the first with Harding coming back to score the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Crichton led 5-4. Correa and Whitaker started out the inning strong with a walk and a double respectively. Moody had one of his three hits in the game, scoring Will McDonald (Correa's pinch runner) and Whitaker. Zach Fisher added some insurance runs by reaching on an error and scoring Moody. Dare Saul singled to score Fisher for the 8-5 lead.
Bison pitcher Daniel Morgan (1-0) pitched a third of the sixth inning to grab the win while Aaron Davidson pitched the last inning for his fifth save of the season. Michael Eahart (0-1) took the loss for the Comets. The Bisons went through eight pitchers on the day.
Whitaker came away from the day 3-for-4 and Moody drove in three runs in the combined games. Correa hit his first, team's fourth homerun of the season.
The Bisons travel to Alabama-Huntsville this weekend for a doubleheader on Saturday, February 24 and Sunday, Febraury 25. Both doubleheaders begin at 1:00 p.m.
