SEARCY, Ark. – The Harding baseball team came from behind in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat North Alabama, 8-7 in the first game of the doubleheader. The Bisons were shutout for the first time this season in the second game with a score of 3-0. Harding improved to 15-7 overall and the Lions moved to 13-7-1.
The Bisons were down 7-4 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Randall Hunt was walked by North Alabama pitcher Brandon Foster. Foster was replaced by Frank Dougherty on the mound. Hunt advanced to second on a failed pickoff. Dare Saul moved Hunt to third on a single and Adam Darby tripled to score Saul and Hunt. Will McDonald and Bo Whitaker got on base by being hit by the pitch. With a 7-6 deficit, Ryan Moody stepped up and doubled to right center, scoring McDonald and Darby for the game winning run.
Harding's Brian McCrackin (2-0) took the win for three innings of work in relief of starter Brodie Brumley. Dougherty suffered the loss for the Lions. Both teams had 11 hits. UNA had two errors while the Bisons limited their mistakes to one.
The Harding offense could not get past North Alabama's Pat Allison. Allison pitched a complete game, allowing only three hits and two walks. He struck out seven Bison batters. The Lions scored two runs in the top of the third and one more in the fourth. UNA totaled eight hits and only one error. Harding's defense struggled with three errors.
Gilbert Tellez (0-2) took the loss for the Bisons. Tellez pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs.
Adam Darby led the Bisons with four hits on the day including a double and a triple. Moody drove in three RBI in the first game.
North Alabama's Josh Phillips went 4-for-4 in the first game and 1-for-3 in the second game. Trey Pollard followed Phillips with four hits on the day.
The Bisons continue their homestand on Friday, March 9 at 5:00 p.m. for a single game against Ozarks (Mo.) at Jerry Moore Field.
