Harding Splits on Day 2 of CBU Tournament

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Sophomore Manuela Nesheva pounded out 27 kills for Harding in its win over Fort Hays State on Sat. at the Christian Brothers Tournament. The Lady Bisons were defeated by #15 Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in the first match of the day, 3-1. HU won the second game of the match, 30-27, but could not continue the comeback and lost with game scores of 30-27, 30-20, 30-23. Harding recovered to swing a 3-1 win over Fort Hays State with scores of 30-23, 30-27, 26-30, 30-28.

 

The Lady Bisons improved to 3-1 overall this season. Both opponents had more than 10 blocks against the Harding squad. SIUE totaled 17 and FHSU had 13. The win for SIUE improved its record to 3-0 and Fort Hays State dropped to 2-2.

 

Nesheva took charge in the first match also with 21 kills. Katelin Parks led the team with 23 kills against the Cougars (SIUE) as well as a double-double (16 kills, 16 digs) against the Tigers. Junior Leah Tepe averaged 55 assists on the day and recorded a double-double in the second match also with 57 assists and 15 digs. Once again, Meredith Rosenbaum took over the back row with 19 and 23 digs in the respective games.

 

Harding hit .144 in the first match and .209 against FHSU. Kellyn Thaut shined for the Tigers with 22 kills and 17 digs. The Cougars had three players in double-digit kills (Schulte, Rahn, and Hofeldt).

 

The Lady Bisons take the floor next at the Texas Women's Invitational in Denton, Texas on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
