DENTON, Texas – The Lady Bison volleyball team came away from day one of the Texas Woman's Invitiational with two wins as it defeated Central Oklahoma and host team Texas Woman's on Friday. Niether match was an easy win with UCO taking Harding to five games and the Lady Bisons pulling through, 15-13 in the last game. Texas Woman's grabbed the first game of the four-game match and fired up the Lady Bisons enough to sail through the last three games.
Game scores against UCO were 33-31, 30-19, 28-30, 24-30, and 15-13. Harding defeated TWU with scores of 26-30, 30-22, 30-17, and 30-17. Harding improved to 5-1 while UCO dropped to 2-3 and TWU fell to 3-3.
Harding sophomore Manuela Nesheva and senior Katelin Parks took charge in both matches accruing 41 and 36 kills respectively. Leah Tepe had a career-high 69 assists against Central Oklahoma and had a double-double in both of the matches, giving her 39 career double-doubles. Nesheva also had two double-doubles on the day with 24 kills and 19 digs in match one and 17 kills and 22 digs in the second match.
Harding's Meredith Rosenbaum also had a career-high today with 42 digs against Central Oklahoma. The Lady Bisons put together a .208 attack percentage in match one and raised it to .298 in match two. HU also had more blocks than its opponent (8, 6) in both matches for the first time this season.
Mari Araujo led Central Oklahoma with 26 kills and added 13 digs. Texas Woman's Jessica Crow had the team's only double-double with 36 assists and 11 digs.
The Lady Bisons will take the floor tomorrow at Texas Woman's to face Missouri Southern and Southwest Baptist.
