FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – Nova Southeastern junior forward Hayley Oligane scored three goals to lead the Sharks to a 6-1 women's soccer victory over Harding on Friday. The teams are both members of the NCAA II South Region.
Oligane's first goal came just over a minute into the game to give Nova Southeastern (1-1) an early lead. The advantage was short-lived as Harding (1-2) answered almost immediately. Just inside three minutes, Lady Bison senior forward Kendyl Washburn scored her school-record tying 33rd career goal on an assist from freshman Brianna Meek. It was her second tally of the season.
Nova Southeastern, a member of the Sunshine State Conference, then scored five unanswered goals, two coming before the halftime break. Oligane scored again in the 14th minute, and junior forward Shurell Burton made it 3-1 with her first goal in the 21st minute.
Oligane, Heather Swift and Natalie Bellini all scored goals in the second half for the Sharks.
Nova Southeastern out-shot Harding 26-5 overall, including 13-1 in the second half.
Freshman Hannah Douglas made her third consecutive start in goal for the Lady Bisons, replacing the injured Chelsea Horneck. Douglas surrendered five goals in 58 minutes before giving way to fellow freshman Meredith Brown. Douglas had six saves, and Brown had four.
Harding meets another Sunshine State foe at noon Sunday, taking on Lynn in Boca Raton, Fla.
