Lady Bisons Win Conference Opener

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Lady Bison volleyball team won its eighth straight Gulf South Conference opener Tues. night in a 3-0 match against Southern Arkansas. Harding swept the Lady Muleriders with scores of 30-20, 30-28, and 30-22 and improved to 11-6 overall. SAU dropped to 3-11 overall and 0-1 in GSC play.

 

Harding senior Katelin Parks had a superb night, leading the team with 16 kills, a .483 hitting percentage and seven total blocks. Three other Lady Bisons had double-digit kills (Manuela Nesheva – 16, Sarah Phipps – 10, Shellie Rummer – 10) while Leah Tepe totaled 46 assists and 13 digs. Meredith Rosenbaum led the team with 20 digs.

 

The Lady Bisons hit .321 for the match with 55 kills and only 13 hitting errors in 131 attempts. Game two brought Harding's attack percentage down after hitting .400 in game one. The Lady Bisons recovered and hit .400 in the third game also. Harding out-blocked the Lady Muleriders 7-to-5.

 

Southern Arkansas' Kristina Daily led the match with 17 kills and the team hit .220 for the match.

 

Harding is back on the winning track after three losses last weekend. The Lady Bisons have four upcoming GSC matches. HU will play Arkansas Tech on Sept. 25 in Searcy, Ark., at the Rhodes Field House.
