Harding Loses In Matchup of GSC Unbeatens

SEARCY – Jamar Flowers scored 13 of his team-leading 16 points to help lead the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys to a 64-60 victory over the Harding Bisons at Rhodes Field House on Thursday night.
 
Harding (9-8, 3-1 Gulf South) had won 14 consecutive games against Arkansas Tech and 10 in a row against the Wonder Boys at home. The Bisons had also won their last five games at home. Arkansas Tech improved to 13-4 overall and 4-0 in GSC play.
 
Thursday's game was close from start to finish – Harding and Arkansas Tech swapped leads 11 times, and the game was tied on 12 occasions.
 
Junior Steven Barnett tied the game 29-29 on a free throw with 27 seconds left in the half, but Troy Marcus gave the Wonder Boys a 31-29 halftime lead on a layup with five seconds remaining in the half.
 
Senior Matt Hall, Harding's leading scorer, scored 10 points in the first half, but was held to just four points after halftime.
 
The Bisons rallied to take the lead 37-35 on a layup by senior Chris Dixon early in the second half. Harding extended its lead to eight points on a free throw by sophomore Kevin Brown.
 
Renard Allen scored a three-pointer as the Wonder Boys came back to take a 58-54 lead with 4:20 left. Hall tied the game a minute later with a jumper, but Chad Henderson gave Arkansas Tech the lead for good on a free throw with 2:47 remaining.
 
Allen scored 15 points for Arkansas Tech and collected a team-high 12 rebounds.
 
Sophomore Trent Morgan led Harding with 16 points and five assists. Senior Chris Dixon, who picked up his fourth foul early in the second half, finished with nine points.
 
Harding will continue its GSC schedule when it faces Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark., at 5 p.m.
