SEARCY - Former Harding University linebacker Torrance "Tank" Daniels had two special-team tackles and a forced fumble in the New York Giants' 24-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday in the NFC Wild Card Game.
Daniels, who played for Harding from 2002-05, made his first tackle on punt coverage, stopping Bucs return man Ike Hilliard after a one-yard gain midway through the first quarter.
His second tackle and forced fumble occurred on the opening kickoff of the second half. Daniels stripped the ball away from Michael Spurlock at the Tampa Bay 32-yard line. Corey Webster recovered the fumble for the Giants, who converted the turnover into a 25-yard field goal by Lawrence Tynes, giving New York a 17-7 lead.
Daniels played in four regular-season games for the Giants after being called up from the practice squad on Nov. 27. He had one assisted special-teams tackle in the regular season.
The victory was the first for the Giants in the playoffs since 2001. New York will meet the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in Dallas.
Last season, as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, Daniels became the first Harding graduate to play in the National Football League.
