MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Bison baseball team dropped two games to Crichton at Gagliano Field on Tuesday afternoon with scores of 4-1 and 6-5. Harding fell to 7-3 overall while the Comets improved to 5-6.
The Bisons fell behind early in the first game with the Comets scoring in the second, third, and fourth innings. Harding managed one run in the sixth but could not make the comeback that was needed. Crichton had nine hits to Harding's four but the Comets also made three errors.
Anthony Albonetti pitched for Crichton, striking out three Harding batters and allowing four hits. The Bisons' only run was unearned.
Charles Bradley led the Bisons at the plate with two hits and a run scored. Aaron Roberts drove in the Harding run. Dakota Gardner started on the mound for the Bisons, completing three and two-thirds innings with four strikeouts and three earned runs. Gilbert Tellez finished out game one allowing no runs and striking out one.
Harding started the second game with as many hits as it had in the entire first game. Dare Saul led off with the first hit of four in the first inning. Ryan Moody, Roberts, and Matt Stevens followed with singles, scoring Saul before three straight outs. Crichton answered with a run in the first scored by D.J. Merriwether's homerun.
Roberts hit Harding's second homerun of the season in the third inning and Tyler Thompson doubled to score Will McDonald. Ryan Moody continued the trend and homered in the fourth. With a Harding lead of 4-1, the Comets came back to score two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead.
Two wild pitches by Crichton pitcher Corey Chance made for a run in the sixth inning by the Bisons which tied the game. The teams made it to the eighth inning before the Comets doubled twice and scored to end the game.
Corey Chance took the win for the Comets with five strikeouts and one earned run.
Four Harding players had two hits each – Ryan Moody, Aaron Roberts, Matt Stevens, and Tyler Thompson. Donny Stephens took the loss for the Bisons after pitching one and two-thirds innings.
The Bisons play again this weekend at Jerry Moore Field in Searcy. Harding takes on Alabama-Huntsville for a four-game series beginning at noon on Saturday, Feb. 23.
