SEARCY, Ark. – The Bison baseball team split with the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers today at Jerry Moore Field. Both games went into eight innings with UAH winning the first, 5-4 and Harding winning the second, 6-5. HU is 8-4 overall and the Chargers are 6-8.
Harding had only two hits in the first game, both by senior Matt Stevens. The Chargers tallied nine hits in game one and committed four errors. Joe Dunlap earned the win for Alabama-Huntsville for 2 and a third innings of work and one strikeout. Dunlap allowed no runs. Shane Bishop (1-1) took the loss for the Bisons in two and two-thirds innings. D.A. Kremer started the game on the mound for HU and allowed four earned runs. Both of Harding's pitchers struck out three batters each.
Kevin Herring and Blake Butler had three hits each for UAH.
The Bisons got the bats going in game two with nine hits including two doubles and two triples. Bo Whitaker went 3-for-5 at the plate with a single, double, and triple. Gilbert Tellez (1-0) claimed the win for the Bisons after three and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts and no runs allowed. Michael Skinner allowed only two earned runs in four and third innings. The senior starter struck out five batters.
Harding had four errors in game two but came back to win in the bottom of the eighth inning. Ryan Moody hit a triple and UAH reliever Stevie Speciale intentionally walked the next two batters to load the bases. With only one out, Speciale walked Ben Rodriguez to score the winning run.
UAH had eight hits and one error in game two.
The Bisons and Chargers face off again on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. for another doubleheader at Jerry Moore Field.
