SEARCY, Ark. – The Bison baseball team split with the Crichton Comets on Tuesday afternoon improving Harding's record to 11-5 and Crichton's to 7-9. The Comets won game one with an eighth inning push, 11-5. Harding won the second game, 8-5.
Crichton led the first game, 5-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Bisons tied it up at five with a double by J.D. Glenn, a single by Ben Rodriguez and a home run by Matt Stevens. The Comets came back to score six runs to win game one.
Gilbert Tellez (1-0) started for the Bisons but Shane Bishop (1-2) took the loss for an inning of work. Kody Bompous grabbed the win for Crichton. Leadoff hitter for the Comets, Dustin Young went 5-for-5 in game one with a double and a home run.
Harding junior Dakota Gardner (1-1) earned the win in game two for a complete game with six strikeouts and only two earned runs allowed. Stevens, Aaron Roberts, and Wisley Correa contributed to Harding's win with a home run each. Correa and Roberts led the team with three hits each in game two.
The Bisons committed two errors in each game while the Comets made only one in each game. Harding totaled 22 hits (12, 10) on the day.
Jesse Butler claimed the loss for the Comets in game two.
Harding will take a road trip for the next five games. The Bisons will play in Florence at North Alabama on March 1-2 and in Pensacola at West Florida on March 4-5.
