Owens Scores 24 In Harding Victory Over SAU

SEARCY – Sophomore Stacey Owens scored 24 points and collected eight rebounds to help lead the Harding to an 84-52 victory over the Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders in the Lady Bison's final home game of the season at Rhodes Field House on Thursday night. It was Harding's largest margin of victory in Gulf South Conference play since joining the conference in 2000.
 
Harding improved to 18-8 overall and 8-5 in the GSC West, while Southern Arkansas fell to 5-20 overall and 1-12 in conference play. The Lady Bisons defeated Southern Arkansas 89-59 earlier this season.
 
The Lady Bisons led from the start when senior Kristen Donnell scored a layup on their first possession.
 
Goldie White hit a jumper to close the lead to 14-10 five minutes into the game, but Donnell scored another layup to start a 15-0 Harding run. Junior Catherine McMenamy hit a jumper to cap the streak, and the Lady Bisons extended their lead to 29-10.
 
Harding led 51-25 at halftime as Owens scored 19 of her 24 points in the half.
 
The Lady Bisons led by as many as 36 points in the second half, extending its lead to 71-35 on a free throw by freshman Leah Fugett.
 
Donnell finished with a career-high 20 points in addition to her 11 rebounds. Freshman Rachel Carter scored a career-high 13 points, making 3-of-3 from the three-point arc. McMenamy scored 10 points.
 
Harding outrebounded Southern Arkansas 50-17, and the Lady Bisons improved to 11-0 when rebounding more than their opponent.
 
White hit 3-of-9 three-pointers and led Southern Arkansas with 21 points and four assists.
 
The Lady Bisons will conclude their regular season schedule on Saturday when they will face Christian Brothers at 3 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn.
