SEARCY – Junior D.A. Kremer and sophomore Troy Keith allowed just three hits over nine innings to help lead the Harding Bisons to a 3-0 season-opening victory over the Northeastern State RiverHawks at Jerry Moore Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Kremer, a transfer from Oklahoma A&M, made his first career start for Harding (1-0), allowing two hits and striking out four over seven innings. Keith pitched the final two innings to earn his first career save.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings, but Harding was able to string a few hits together after two quick outs in the bottom of the fourth. Junior Wisley Correa singled to center field, and junior J.D. Glenn followed with a double to score Correa. Glenn later scored on a double by senior Zach Fisher to give Harding a 2-0 lead.
The Bisons added another run in the fifth inning when senior Adam Darby scored on a double by senior Matt Stevens. Darby and Fisher each had two hits.
Adam Hibdon pitched six innings and picked up the loss for Northeastern State (2-2).
Harding will host Missouri S&T for four games this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at noon.
