SEARCY, Ark. – The Harding Bisons shutout the North Alabama Lions in the first game and scored the game-winning run in the sixth inning of the second game to sweep UNA, 2-0 and 4-3. The Bisons improved to 17-14 overall while the Lions dropped to 18-11.

 

Brian McCrackin (2-1) earned the win for the Bisons in game on with four innings of work and only two hits allowed. Gilbert Tellez grabbed his first save for pitching the last three innings. Harding managed its two runs on only three hits, but the Lions could not capitalize on their five hits in the first game.

 

Harding's Wisley Correa led the team with a hit and an RBI. Nick Newberry led the Lions with two hits.

 

The Bisons tied up the score at one in the second inning with two singles by Tyler Thompson and Ryan Moody. The Lions scored again in the fifth and sixth innings. With a 3-1 score in the bottom of the sixth, with UNA leading, Thompson led off with a single and moved to second on a failed pick-off attempt. Senior Bo Whitaker doubled to left field scoring Thompson. Whitaker advanced to third on a fly out and scored on a double by Moody. Correa knocked in the go-ahead run with a single through the right side.

 

Harding tallied seven hits in game two while UNA had three hits and three errors. Dakota Gardner started on the mound for the Bisons and allowed three runs in five and two-thirds innings. Shane Bishop (2-2) took the win for HU for one and one-thirds innings of work.

 

The Bisons host #11 Delta State this weekend for a three-game conference series. The first game will be on Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m. at Jerry Moore Field.
