Box Score 2 SEARCY -- Sophomore Brodie Brumley pitched a two-hit complete game shutout against the Christian Brothers Buccanneers in the second game to help the Harding Bisons split a rare Sunday conference doubleheader at Jerry Moore Field. The Bisons lost the first game 7-6 but cruised to a 8-0 victory behind Brodie's effort.
Harding (19-16, 4-6 Gulf South), which defeated Christian Brothers 6-1 in Saturday's game, won its first GSC series at home this season. The Bisons had won two of three against Ouachita Baptist earlier this season in Arkadelphia, Ark.
In the first game, Harding allowed eight hits, but the Bisons were more affected by the season-high six errors. Six of Christian Brothers' seven runs were unearned and increased its lead to 6-2 in the top of the sixth inning by scoring four runs off two Harding errors.
Junior Ryan Moody hit an RBI single down the left field line to cap a four-run sixth inning rally as Harding trailed 6-5. Moody singled again -- his third hit of the game -- to bring home Bo Whitaker to tie Christian Brothers 6-6 in the eighth inning.
Fielding mistakes came back to trouble Harding in the end. Christian Brothers' Andrew Griffy reaching on a walk and advanced to second on a fielding error, eventually scoring the game-winning run on a single by Will Britt.
Steven Thomas (2-0) earned the victory in the first game, allowing two hits and a walk over the final 2.2 innings for Christian Brothers (14-19, 6-5). D.A. Kremer (3-3) picked up the loss.
Harding took the lead early in the second game by scoring three runs in the second inning, two of them coming off an triple by sophomore Will McDonald. The Bisons scored four more runs in the fourth inning, which was highlighted by a three-run home run by Aaron Roberts, his team-leading eighth of the season. Roberts led the Bisons with two hits and four RBI.
Brumley (3-0) struck out four batters and allowed no walks to earn his first career complete-game shutout. Junior Dave Delugach (2-4) allowed seven runs in 4.1 innings and took the loss.
The Bisons will host Central Baptist on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
