Volleyball Sweeps past Christian Brothers

SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team pushed their winning streak to 13 games Thursday after defeating Christian Brothers in Gulf South Conference play, 3-0. The Lady Bisons are 16-2 on the season and 3-0 in GSC West Division.

Harding jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first set. Harding went up 9-5 before Christian Brothers went on a 6-0 run to take their first lead 11-10. The Lady Bisons battled their way back in the set and went on a 9-1 run to take the first set, 25-21.

Both teams exchanged points through the second set until Harding went on an 8-3 run to take the set, 25-22.

Harding jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the third set. The Lady Bucs battled their way back but the Lady Bisons defense didn't allow CBU to get any closer than a point. Harding went on a 7-2 run to take the third set 15-16.

The Lady Bisons were led by senior Manuela Nesheva who had 18 kills and nine digs. Senior outside hitter Sarah Phipps led the Harding defense with a career high 17 digs. Junior Emily Tate added 15 to the Harding total of 62.

Sophomore middle blocker Logan Westphal led the Lady Bucs offense with 10 kills.

The Harding defense held Christian Brothers to a .098 hitting percentage. The Lady Bisons, as a team, had a.220 hitting percentage.

The Lady Bisons continue GSC play on the road heading to Monticello, Ark., to face Arkansas-Monticello on Oct. 6th at 7 p.m.
