SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team swept Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday night in Gulf South Conference action, 3-0. The win moves the Lady Bisons to an 18-3 overall record and to 5-1 GSC West Division.
The Lady Bisons started the first set with a 4-2 lead but Ouachita Baptist rallied and pulled within two. Harding then went on 9-0 run to take the set 25-13.
Harding again jumped out to take a 5-1 lead in the second set but the Lady Tigers pulled together and went on a 9-1 run to go up 12-8. Harding took a 16-15 lead on a 6-0 run but Ouachita Baptist battled back to tie the set 20-20. Harding took the set on a 4-1 run, 25-22.
Ouachita Baptist pulled out to take a 5-2 lead in the third set but the Lady BIsons quickly tied up the set 6-6. The two teams battled for the lead through the middle of the set but Harding took the set on an 8-1 run, 25-17.
The Lady Bisons were led by senior outside hitter Manuela Nesheva who had 17 kills and nine digs. Fellow senior Sarah Phipps picked up her ninth career double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs for Harding. For the sixth time this season junior Emily Tate had a 20 plus dig match, ending with 21 digs for the Lady Bisons.
The Lady Tigers were led by Libby Merritt who had 10 kills. Allison Frizzell led the Lady Tigers defense with 20 digs on the night.
The Harding defense held Ouachita Baptist to a .123 hitting percentage. The Lady Bisons had 46 kills on 131 attempts with 13 errors for a .252 hitting percentage.
The Lady Bisons are back in action Thursday as they host Southern Arkansas at the Rhodes Field House at 7 p.m.
