Box Score vs. Arkansas-Fort Smith

SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team split Saturday in non-conference action, falling to Arkansas-Fort Smith, 3-0 and defeating Missouri S&T, 3-0. Harding improves to 23-6 on the season.
In the Arkansas-Fort Smith match, Harding fell behind early in set one and couldn't battle their way back dropping the first set, 25-17. The Lady Bisons kept it close in the second set until, a Lady Lions 6-0 run to jump out in front and they didn't look back as Fort Smith took the set, 25-20. Harding again fell behind early but battled their way back to take their first lead of the match going up 16-15 in the third set. The Lady Lions took back their lead but Harding once again took an 18-17 lead. Fort Smith went on an 8-2 run to close out the set, 25-20.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Phipps led the Lady Bisons with 12 kills in the match. Junior Emily Tate had 14 digs to lead the Lady Bisons.
Fort Smith had three players in double-figure digs, leading the way was Fabiane Nass who had 13 digs. Keely Rivera and Janie Price each had 11 digs for the Lady Lions. Heidi Luks led the Fort Smith offense with 12 kills.
The Lady Lions had 41 kills on 94 attempts with eight errors for a .351 hitting percentage. Fort Smith had nine blocks in the match.
In the second match of the day against Missouri S&T, Harding started out slow in the first set but battles their way to a 14-9 lead. The Lady Miners didn't get any closer than six as the Lady Bisons take the set, 25-17. The two teams battled for the lead early in set two but Harding broke away on a 7-1 run, taking the set, 25-22. The Lady Bisons jumped out and grabbed the quick lead in set three but the Lady Miners didn't quick battling their way back into the set but the Lady Bisons put them away, 25-18.
Senior outside hitter Manuela Nesheva led the Lady Bisons with a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Tate again led the defense with 15 digs and Amber Parker had a double-figure performance with 11 digs.
The Lady Miners were led by Samantha Klump who had 10 digs. Bridget Williams had 15 digs for Missouri S&T.
Harding will continue Gulf South Conference action Tuesday, traveling to Memphis, Tenn., to take on Christian Brothers at 7 p.m.
