SEARCY – The Harding women's soccer team picked up their first Gulf South Conference victory Friday after defeating Delta State, 3-0. The win moves the Lady Bisons to 3-7-1 on the season and 1-2 in the GSC.
Harding took four shots before freshman midfielder Chloe Birdwell found the bottom right corner of the net to give the Lady Bisons a 1-0 lead. It was Birdwell's first collegiate goal. Ten minutes later freshman midfielder Tabitha McReynolds picked up her team leading four goal of the season on a Chloe Birdwell cross from the left side in which McReynolds headed the ball to the top left corner of the net. Harding took the 2-0 lead into halftime.
Seven minutes after the break sophomore forward Chelsea Brandon received a cross from senior midfielder Minnie Guzman that went through the Lady Statesmen defense. Brandon found the bottom right corner of the net to put Harding up 3-0.
The Harding defense stayed tough throughout the match only giving up one shot. Junior goalkeeper had one save and received the shutout. It was second shutout of the season.
Harding took 21 shots, nine were on goal.
The Lady Bisons are back in action next Friday as they host North Alabama at the Harding Soccer Field at 7 p.m.
