SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team fell to West Alabama 3-0 Saturday in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament in Searcy, Ark. Harding ends their season with a 28-7 overall record.
West Alabama jumped out to take a 7-3 lead in the first set but the Lady Bisons took lead on a 5-0 run. The Tigers went on a 9-2 run to take a 16-10 lead and didn't look back as they took the set, 25-16.
The Tigers again jumped out to take a 10-7 lead in the second set but the Lady Bisons battled back to take a 14-13 lead on two HU kills. West Alabama took back their lead and went on a 10-2 lead to take the set, 25-18.
West Alabama took a 10-6 lead in the third set before the Harding offense rallied to tie the set 11-11. The Lady Bisons kept it close in the middle of the set and took a 23-21 lead on two Tiger attack errors. West Alabama took a timeout to stop the Lady Bison rally. Out of the timeout, West Alabama had two quick kills to tie the set 23-23. A kill by senior Samantha Anderson put the Lady Bisons up by one but a West Alabama kill and a service ace gave them back the lead. Tiger sophomore Alexis McHale put the match away with a kill.
Harding senior Manuela Nesheva led the Lady Bisons with 11 kills and 13 digs. Freshman setter Amber Schinzing captured a double-double with 37 assists and 11 digs. Junior Emily Tate added 11 digs for the Lady Bisons.
West Alabama had two players in double-figure kills, leading the way was Jordan Kent who had 11 and Brittney Cousin with 10. Chanelle Esteban led the Tiger defense with 14 digs and Thais Hollerbach added 13 digs for the Tigers.
West Alabama defense only allowed the Lady Bisons to hit for .098 in the match. Harding had 24 errors in the match.
