SEARCY — Freshman Lindsey Root couldn't miss a shot Thursday night, scoring 19 point to lead the Harding Lady Bisons past the Christian Brothers Lady Buccanneers 72-57 at the Rhodes Field House.

Root, who has scored more than 10 points for the last four games, hit 7 of 7 shots from the field, including three shots from well-behind the three-point line. She had scored 17 points by halftime.

Harding (19-6, 5-6 Gulf South Conference) evened the season series against Christian Brothers (8-16, 1-10) by building an early lead and keeping it. Senior Catherine McMenamy hit a jumper to put the Lady Bisons ahead 6-5 in the third minute of the game, and Harding never trailed again.

Harding held Christian Brothers to 7 of 29 shooting (24.1 percent) and led 37-19 at halftime.

“We got off to a good start, something we've really been talking about the last few weeks,” Harding coach Tim Kirby said. “We came out with a lot of energy and were able to maintain it for pretty much the whole game.”

Senior Ashley Anderson picked up where Root left off in the second half, scoring all 14 of her points after halftime. The Lady Bisons led by as many as 23 points in the second half.

Harding hit 7 of 10 three-pointers (70 percent), while Christian Brothers made only 7 of 28 (25 percent). In addition to Root's three three-pointers, Sophomore Makala McNair made both of her attempts from three-point range.

“Every shot we took was from a good look,” Kirby said. “We were selective and knew we could take it inside to score.”

Sophomore Makala McNair made 6 of 7 shots and finished with 14 points. McMenamy and freshman Sierra Rollins each led the team with 8 rebounds. Harding outrebounded Christian Brothers 38-34.

Tanaeya Worden led Christian Brothers with 18 points. Erin Nigh and Sheena DeBose each scored 10 points.

The Lady Bisons will travel to Monticello, Ark., on Saturday to face Arkansas-Monticello at 2 p.m.
