SEARCY — Junior Trent Morgan and sophomore Kevin Brown each scored 19 point as the Harding Bisons evened their conference record with a 73-60 victory over the Henderson State Reddies at the Rhodes Field House on Thursday night.
The game was tied three times in the first half, but sophomore Sam Brown scored a layup to give Harding (14-7, 4-4 Gulf South Conference) a 31-29 lead with 1:07 left. Kevin Brown helped Harding extend its lead when he scored a layup on an assist from Morgan.
Senior point guard Steven Barnett grabbed a rebound and drove the length of the court for a layup as time expired in the first half, and Harding led 35-29.
Harding pulled ahead in the second half. Sam Brown hit a three-pointer to give Harding a 66-46 lead — the team's largest lead of the game — with 6:32 left in the second half.
The Bisons out-rebounded Henderson State 53-45. Senior Brian Howard led the Bisons with a career-high 14 rebounds, and Kevin Brown recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds in addition to his 19 points.
Vincent Patterson led Henderson State with 11 points, and Martin Mitchell added 10 points. Although Jonathan Simms was held scoreless, he led the team with nine rebounds.
Henderson State (3-17, 1-7) struggled scoring from three-point range, making only 3 of 20 shots (15.0 percent). The Reddies hit 1 of 7 three-pointers in the second half.
Harding will have a one-week break from its playing schedule before traveling to Magnolia, Ark., on Feb. 12 to play Southern Arkansas at 7:30 p.m.
