SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team opens the 2009 campaign on the road at the Missouri Southern Invitational in Joplin, Mo., Friday and Saturday. The Lady Bisons will play four matches in the tournament, the first against Midwestern State at 1 p.m., on Friday.
Friday at 7 p.m., Harding will take on Pittsburg State. The Gorillas are ranked 17th in the AVCA Preseason Poll. The teams are tied five games apiece in the series. Saturday at 1 p.m., the Lady Bisons look to keep their unbeaten streak alive against Southeastern Oklahoma State. Harding has won the last ten straight matches against the Savage Storm. The Lady Bisons will wrap up the tournament playing host team Missouri Southern at 4 p.m., on Saturday. Harding leads the series 7-4.
Senior outside hitter Manuela Nesheva led the Lady Bisons last season averaging 4.59 kills per set. She also averaged 2.63 digs per set. Junior defensive specialist Emily Tate looks to continue to lead the Lady Bisons defense this season. Tate averaged 4.05 digs per set last season.
The Lady Bisons will play their first nine matches on the road before their first home matches against Rhodes College on Sept., 8.
